general information

Ryedale swimming club was formed in 1973 and is currently based at Ryedale Swimming Pool in Pickering. With the help of our dedicated teaching staff who give their time entirely on a voluntarily basis, the club has grown in numbers and is now a thriving part of the Ryedale community. New members from the age of five to ninety five are all welcome. The aim of the club is to give both children and adults confidence in the water and to teach them to perform all the swimming strokes competently and competitively.

The club year runs from April to March and is divided into 13 week quarters. Ryedale Swimming Club compete in 3 different leagues. The Friendly League gives younger and less experienced swimmers a chance to compete in a swimming gala. In the North Yorkshire League Ryedale compete against 3 other clubs over the course of the year ending with individual championships in November. The most competitive league, The Ridings League presently sees us swimming against much bigger clubs than ourselves. This league also concludes with individual championships at the end of the year. There is an achievements award night twice in the year, and long distance once. This is when the swimmers can try for the distance and proficiency badges.

The teaching section begins with armbands and floats and then progresses to widths and lengths. The Speedo section of the club aims to produce swimmers capable and willing to compete for the club at league level.
